La Casita Verde is an innovative green space for the community to learn about and participate in permaculture and the soil food web. The green space will support urban agriculture, soil rehabilitation, water reclamation, a discovery lab as well as events for skill sharing and community building around healthful living.



Membership Eligibility: Any person regardless of race, creed, color or sexual orientation. Membership does not come with an individual plot.

Dues: Per Person: $20/per year due in May each year

Meeting Times: Steering Committee will meet once a month or as needed.

Meeting Place: in the garden


Decision Making:

At all meetings of the Steering Committee a simple majority of Steering Committee must be present in person or by proxy to constitute a quorum for the transaction of business. A majority of the quorum is needed to pass any decision. In the absence of a quorum, a majority of the Steering Committee members present or represented may adjourn the meeting or continue with unofficial business.

New plans or changes to existing plans can only be put into effect and implemented with a vote and approval of the Steering Committee. This includes bylaws, membership, rules, physical space (facilities) and operations. Failure to do so can lead to termination of membership.


Officers and Responsibilities:

In 2017 there are four Steering Committee officers: President, Vice President, Treasurer and Community Outreach Officer. In 2017 a Secretary will be added for Season 2018. All active members can participate in the vote. This Secretary will serve in 2018 and will be a rotating yearly position.

Responsibility of President (Brooke Singer)

The President presides over all meetings, and Steering Committee and has the authority to sign legal documents and checks on behalf of the organization.

Responsibility of Vice President (Santiago Lopez)

The Vice President acts as the President when the President is absent or unavailable and sits on the Steering Committee.

Responsibility of Treasurer (Nelly Rosario)

The Treasurer is responsible for all financial records, has the authority to sign checks on behalf of the organization and sits on the Steering Committee.

Community Outreach Officer (Elizabeth Guzman)

Responsibility of Community Outreach Officer is to maintain good relations with organizations in the neighborhood as well as elected officials. The COO will handle media and individual inquiries that fall outside of membership. 

Secretary (Carlos Lerias)

The Secretary starting in 2018 will be the rotating 5th steering committee member and elected as described below. The Secretary is responsible for taking notes at all member meetings and sharing them in a timely fashion. 

Rotating 5th Officer: Starting in 2017, a 5th steering committee member will be added to fulfill the role of Secretary. This position will be open to nomination by members (self nomination is acceptable) and a vote will take place by end of the Season (October 2017). If there is only one nomination then no vote is necessary. Vote will be by simple majority. If there is no willing member to fill the role then the Steering Committee will revert back to 4 members for the year. This position is for the following season (i.e., a vote in 2017 will take effect in 2018 Season) and will rotate every year thereafter in the same manner. 

Proxy Voting: Proxies are accepted if received by a Steering Committee member in writing 24 hours prior to a meeting.


These bylaws may be amended by the Steering Committee members of the organization duly called for the purpose of amending these bylaws.

Membership Responsibilities

Steering Committee members shall be acquainted with and abide by the bylaws and rules and regulations of the garden. Failure to do so can lead to termination of membership and therefore role as Steering Committee member.

All subcommittees formed by Steering Committee with members must have at least one Steering Committee as member.
