LCV on List of Sites for Possible Development

We found out last week that our La Casita Verde site is on a list recently published by the Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) that housing developers can apply to build on. We are very disappointed considering the backbreaking work we have just completed this past year to create a foundation for our new garden,  green space desperately needed in South Williamsburg.

While we at LCV support fair and truly affordable housing, we do not support more luxury condo development in the neighborhood. There are many other abandoned lots that HPD can offer to developers and spare community gardens like ours. Let's ensure our city has fair housing AND green space for all!

We are working with GreenThumb, Council member Stephen Levin, 596 Acres and El Puente, among others, to reverse this decision. We will reach out to you, our supporters and community, for help in the near future as we learn more.

In the meantime, learn about what is happening via this story on DNAinfo and watch this Telemundo newscast, which features our garden and Santiago Lopez.
